Beijing Film Academy Established a College in Qingdao

It is heard from relevant authorities of Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone yesterday that after three years of preparation, Beijing Film Academy – Modern Creative Media College, which is located in Xuejiadao, was finally approved by the Ministry of Education as an independent undergraduate college. It is supported by profound professional resources and teaching resources of Beijing Film Academy and plans to recruit 800 students next year.

Ministry of Education issued a formal approval letter

On October 19, the Ministry of Education issued a Letter of Approval (JFH [2010] No. 176) about approvingBeijing Film Academy’s Creative Media College in Qingdao as an independent undergraduate college. The college is officially named as Beijing Film Academy – Modern Creative Media College (hereafter referred to as the "College").

With support of the provincial and municipal educational authorities since 2008, the review and approval formalities about college establishment have progressedin a step-by-step manner, successively passing the review by Shandong Provincial Education Department and the Expert Group of Ministry of Education. After being approved by the Ministry of Education, the college plans to recruit students from next year. According to a leader of the College, the College is the only branch of Beijing Film Academy out of Beijing established upon joint investment of Beijing Film Academy and Qingdao Mantianxia Culture Investment and Development Co., Ltd.

Retired professors give lectures in Qingdao

"We will make full use of the profound professional resources and teaching resources of Beijing Film Academy, invite national and international artists with outstanding achievements in new media art, film, television, network, and animation, and retired professors and associate professors of Beijing Film Academy to give lectures in our College. And we will take efficient and appropriate teaching management and operating measures to improve the teaching quality." According to the leader of the College, 16 majors will be setin the first batch, including broadcasting and television writing and directing, performance, photography, film& television and theatre art design. Modern film training directions include the digital 3D film and television, animation medial creativity, and digital 3D animation.

The College construction is to be completed at the year end.

According to the leader of the College, construction of comprehensive building and the stadium has been started and will be finished at the end of this year. It is planned to recruit 5,000 students, with 800 recruited in the first phase next year. The campus covers an area of 510 mu. The Colleges recruitment plan is listed into the national plan, and applicants shall participate in the uniformed arts examination in Shandong Province.

As reported, to integrate the art creativity with local characteristics of the Phoenix Island tourist resort, the College is designed by Herzog & de Meuron Architekten (the designer of the Birds Nest —the 2008 Beijing Olympic Stadium). The idea is a block floating on the sea, and the architecture scenes are rolling green waves. The construction was started in February 2006. Currently, a total of 85,000 square meters of buildings have been built.
