Northeast Asia Regional Consultative Conference of UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions Held in Qingdao

The Representative Office of UNESCO in China, UNESCO 2005 Convention Secretariat and China National Commission for UNESCO jointly held the Northeast Asia Regional Consultative Conference of UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions from June 20 to 22, 2017. The purpose of the conference is to promote intergovernmental communication, inter-regional cooperation and experience sharing, and to offer a platform for showing creative policies and good practices of 2005 Convention.

Participants were from governmental and nongovernmental organizations of member and nonmember states of the Convention, including northeastern Asian countries in the charge of the Representative Office of UNESCO in China including China, Japan, Mongolia, South Korea, and Asia-Pacific countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Samoa, Thailand and East Timor. 7 representatives from different cities of China also participated in the conference as observers; all these cities took“creativity”as their strategic objective.

The conference helped to establish the networking of participants, who played important roles in the cultivation of the diversified expression of cultures in Northeast Asia region. In the future, they will promote the information sharing, conversation about cultural policies and cultural regulation beyond the present 11 countries.
